9th September

The band played at South Cliff Methodist Church last night which proved to be quite an emotional night as it was Jayne Moxon's last concert with the band before joining her husband Kevin for a new life in Cyprus. She leaves on Tuesday 9th September to join him. Jayne performed her last solo with the band and I think everyone agrees it was her best performance yet. What a way to go out !!. The band are grateful for all Jayne and Kevin have done with the band and they will be greatly missed not only as players but as close friends. Good luck in your new venture and we hope to see you soon.

We have a new member joining our growing group. Mr Andrew Firth who has recently left the army playing oboe. He joins us on his first instrument the cornet. He has played with the group a couple of times and has proved to be a great asset assisting our principle cornet player Roy Gunning. Welcome Andrew.

Scarborough Evening News Article:

A SCARBOROUGH band hit all the right notes rehearsing for a performance at an annual fundraiser.

Simply Brass will be providing the music for the St Catherine's Hospice ball, which this year has the theme of A Night on the Ocean Wave.

Rehearsals have been in full swing to ensure a smooth performance at the Spa on Saturday, June 7.

Hospice fundraiser Jane Richardson said: "We are inviting guests to imagine they are on a virtual cruise this year, so the orchestra will be playing as guests arrive to embark upon their voyage.

"There will be a champagne drinks reception in the Spa Suncourt where Simply Brass will entertain us, before we are all called aboard to set sail for several ports of call. We are hopeful that there will be no need to use the lifebelts!"

Simply Brass, founded seven years ago, is comprised of 15 players who rehearse at Queen Street Central Hall every week.

They play throughout Scarborough at a range of events including village shows, weddings, concerts in Peasholm Park, and have even appeared on ITV's The Royal Today.

As a regular feature at Mulgrave Castle, near Whitby, the band is used to brushing shoulders with the stars and has played for supermodel Elle Macpherson and film star Uma Thurman.

Musical Director Steve Hague said: "We are only too happy to help when it comes to the hospice. We are all looking forward to playing at the ball and we have rehearsed some new music especially for the nautical theme."

Tickets for the ball, priced at £55, and are still available. For further information call the St Catherine's Hospice fundraising department on  (01723) 378406 .
