Vince Turton - Euphonium & Eb Bass
Vince learned to play euphonium from the age of nine years, under his tutor and mentor William Haydock who had been M.D. of the famous Bickershaw Colliery Band.
Starting out in Wigan Boy's Club Band, he went on to play with both local and Top Section (Championship nowadays) bands.
In his early twenties, realising the limitations of the euphonium in wider musical fields, he successfully auditioned for the position of tuba player in a jazz based variety band, The Vintage Syncopators.
Thus began an eclectic career as a jobbing musician.
In his long career Vince has worked in a variety of musical genres covering jazz, swing, soul, rock and pop and folk-rock. He has worked at home and internationally in theatres, clubs, universities, on ships, summer seasons, private and corporate events, radio and T.V. and worked with numerous national and international stars.
Along the way he learned to play trombone and electric bass guitar as well as tuba and euphonium.
Vince retired in 2006 and joined Simply Brass, initially to play Tuba but soon returning to his first love the euphonium, and to play "just for the love and fun of it"
He says that he just loves being part of Simply Brass, and particularly appreciates being paid in a currency of Indian and Chinese meals.
